Advocacy and Policy Manager
Reports to: Director of Advocacy, Policy and Communications
Position Overview:
The Advocacy and Policy Manager is responsible for effectively engaging and mobilizing Resource Center constituents in advocacy activities, positioning Resource Center as a trusted healthcare provider, growing Resource Center’s network of community partners, supporting national mobilization efforts, and helping fulfill the goals of Resource Center’s strategic advocacy plan.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Effectively engage and mobilize Resource Center constituents in advocacy:
- Mobilization, collaborative organizing and rapid response strategies to critical issues affecting the community or allied groups.
- Write content for social media, Resource Center publications, media releases, opinion pieces and other forms of communication.
- Educate and train constituents in advocacy strategies and outreach, in association with the advocacy and training coordinator.
Position Resource Center as a trusted healthcare provider:
- Build media relationships, identify opportunities and create content for chief medical officer and CEO
- Serve as one of the agency spokespersons
- Write position papers on various medical and policy issues
- Speak to public health issues that impact clients and communities
Grow and strengthen Resource Center’s network of community partners:
- Represent Resource Center at events and participate in strategic collaborations
- Communicate effectively with partner organizations and individuals
- Seek strategic opportunities, particularly with other NGOs and nonprofits
- Establish and maintain relationships with local, state and national elected officials and staff
Support national mobilization efforts:
- Building and maintaining strategic relationships
- Research national issues that impact Resource Center and its constituents; disseminating information and calls to action
- Fulfill the goals of Resource Center’s strategic advocacy plan
- Support Resource Center programs with related advocacy and education activities
- Work with staff to communicate the impact and value of the advocacy program
- Create curriculum and provide training in collaboration with the advocacy and training coordinator.
- Develop in-house training and presentations on key issues under the umbrella of “Resource Center Academy.” Audiences for programs could include members of the Community Wellness programs.
Job Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited domestic or international college or university.
- Background in policy, government relations, and advocacy preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Five to eight years of work-related experience
- Experience & commitment working with and sensitivity toward LGBTQIA+ communities
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity and age
- Ability to work and act independently and carry out decisions with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead teams and projects and work collaboratively.
- Successfully manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
- Ability to investigate and analyze information, draw conclusions and problem solve.
- This is a hybrid role
